be collection overview
You tweak. You adjust. You shiver. You sweat. You rummage. You futz. And here, at Herman Miller, we noticed. We are, after all, the company that introduced office systems, facility management and ergonomics to the world. We like to think we notice things that matter. And if you are up adjusting the thermostat, tweaking a screen or futzing with something, you aren't doing whatever it is you do best. That's a problem. That's where we come in.
The Be Collection from Herman Miller is about just being. One of our favorite designers, Bill Stumpf, said this: "The human body has some very narrow margins when it comes to being comfortable. If your shoe is uncomfortable, you're aware of it. So how you get people to a point of comfort is you make them unaware...and that's not easy to do."
The Be Collection offers essential ingredients for personalized comfort. The products range from the familiar to technological breakthroughs and palm-to-the-forehead "why didn't I think of thats." Designs to keep you comfortable, organized and connected. Elements to fine-tune your environment and get you in the zone—physically and mentally—for doing your thing. Being yourself. Being your best.
designer story
Uncomfortable people. Wasted energy. Clunky aesthetics. There have to be better ways to work.
Charles Eames said, "Recognizing the need is the primary condition for design."
The need is great in the realm of personalized comfort and so is the design opportunity. The Be Collection from Herman Miller is working with the likes of Yves Behar, Insight Product Development and Jeff Sokalski on innovative solutions to problems ranging from LED lighting breakthroughs to climate control and better organizational tools. And it's just the beginning. Think of any daily annoyance. Now imagine the power of design brought to bear in eliminating it. That's what we're talking about.
environmental story
Q: How many keyboard trays does it take to fill a landfill?
A: We don't know and we ain't about to find out.
The Be Collection from Herman Miller employs Herman Miller's Design for the Environment protocol (DfE) for material selection and product design.
For example, our keyboard tray is made from recyclable polyethylene. Most comparable keyboard trays are made from phenolic, which is a thermoset plastic that can't be recycled. And that has landfill all over it.
Burn less. Recycle more. Be green about it.
Be persnickety about your lighting. Whether you prefer to be warmly lit, or bathed in a cool glow, Yves Béhar’s Leaf personal light uses efficient LED chips and allows you to achieve your desired illumination through simple touch sensitive controls. You control the light intensity and color that best works for whatever you’re doing. Being a control freak has never looked this good.
Individual control. Leaf puts control in people’s hands, or more accurately, their fingertips. Sliding a finger along a groove in the light’s base adjusts intensity or changes light from warm to cool. The individual can position Leaf for task lighting, fold it for subtle ambient light, or straighten the arms for dramatic wall lighting.
Turning on the technology. Leaf addresses one aspect of LED lights that has limited their use—the intense heat they produce. Leaf handles this issue with a proprietary, continuous heat-dissipation system. The result is a light you can touch anywhere.
Kind to the environment. Developed using Herman Miller’s Design for the Environment protocol, Leaf uses less of the world’s resources to give better light. It consumes 8 to 9 watts of power, about 40 percent less than compact fluorescent lights, and it sheds full light for a minimum of 60,000 hours.
Spirited design. Leaf has an elegant profile and thin, sculptural blades, giving the light an organic form. Five colors to coordinate with a variety of settings: black, white, red, nickel, polished aluminum.

warranty
5-year, 3-shift warranty covers all standard elements and includes labor on all warranty work.
Be illuminated. Be happy. Yves Béhar’s Ardea personal light is inspired by nature, and it’s naturally inspiring. Ardea’s innovative design, diverse mounting options, and efficient performance will make everyone happy.
Mechanical performance. Ardea’s fluid aesthetic is a direct result of its mechanical performance: Flexible hinges at the base and the head are continuous with the rigid structure, allowing for infinite adjustment of the light for personalized illumination.
Stable and fluid. Ardea’s movement and flexibility are integrated within its form and use of materials. The aluminum extrusion is twisted in a new, innovative, manufacturing process, giving it additional structural ability and creating a unique aesthetic.
Low-energy consumption. The compact mini-fluorescent 13-watt bulb is low-energy consuming (.17 amps at 120v), while all materials and manufacturing processes have been developed for minimum environmental impact.
Multiple attachment options. Ardea has several attachment brackets that allow it to be attached in a freestanding manner, clamped to a work surface, or mounted on Action Office panels or Ethospace and Vivo frames and their tool rails.
Four color choices. Ardea comes in four colors: black, white, metallic silver, and polished aluminum.

Be warm. Be cool. C2 climate control lets you choose. This easy-to-use device lets you control the temperature in your immediate workspace. No more arguments over the thermostat. Just plug C2 into a 110-volt outlet and choose a setting that is comfortable for you. Easy to use, easy to move, and easy to adjust. How cool.
Thermal electric technology. Proven in the automotive industry, this advanced technology allows for both heating and cooling in a single unit.
Energy-efficient design. C2 uses uses less than 1.5 amps of AC current, which is approximately 90% less energy than a typical space heater, to affect the 12- to 18-inch space between the device and the user.
Heats, cools, and filters. C2 not only heats and cools, but also cleans the air. Its air filtration system is significantly better than that of a typical home furnace. The filter is GREENGUARD certified and reusable after cleaning. It will remove air pollutants as small as five microns, such as pollen, dust, pet dander, and household airborne particles.
Safe. C2 is not a space heater. There are no exposed heating coils, chemicals, or harmful emissions. Safe to run continuously, C2 has a timer that shuts the unit off after four hours. C2’s power supply is UL approved and plugs into 110v AC.
Human-centered design. Its friendly design encourages user control: C2 is easy to use, easy to move, and easy to adjust.

Be knowledgeable. One of the best ways to know more is to read, and one of the best ways to look like you know more is to have what you're reading in plain sight. Use this bookend on a shelf or work surface to vertically divide your books, binders and other reference materials. Be ready, though. Everybody will be coming to you for the answers.
Be accommodating. The laptop holder attaches to a single monitor arm and accommodates a laptop computer. While using a keyboard support to hold your keyboard, the laptop holder can position a laptop at eye level.
It has a non-slip pad and clips for holding the laptop in place. The mounting plate holds a laptop weighing 2-1/2 to 12 pounds. It meets VESA standards (Video Electronic Standards Association - Mounting Interface Standards). Attachment hardware is included. Can be used with or without a docking station.
Be unassisted. The same big ups you look for in a monitor arm, without the aid of lift-assist technology. If you can get along with a little less assistance, so be it.
Mounting options. You can mount monitors in various ways, including monitor/laptop combinations when used with the laptop holder.
